1.) Holiday Lights Tour
Dress up in your warmest clothes, grab your peeps, hop in the car, and crank up the holiday tunes! Take a magical drive-through tour of your neighborhood’s most impressive light displays or walk a elaborately decorated park or outdoor mall. You can look on-line or in your local neighborhood paper for light displays near you!
From twinkling houses to life-sized reindeer and nativity scenes, there’s always something new and dazzling to discover!
2.) DIY Holiday Ornaments
Why not have a holiday ornament making night with your family or friends? You can forage items to use from outdoor. Grab some pinecones, acorns, twigs and use glitter, ribbon or twine and let your imagination run wild!
This great idea comes from my good friend Jennifer from Cottage on Bunker Hill. She made the cutest Rustic Christmas Ornaments with Wood Slices and Pinecones.
Have you seen my post on How to Make Easy Vintage Ornaments? If you have a printer at home these are the perfect ornament to make. Instead of using prefabbed wooden ornaments, you can cut out pieces of cardboard, and create your own vintage inspired ornament!
Your DIY holiday ornaments can be used on your tree or you hang them on your Christmas gifts. Inexpensive and purposeful!
3.) DIY Hot Cocoa Bar
This is one of the easiest projects you can create for your family and friends to enjoy! What’s cozier than a warm mug of hot chocolate or hot cocoa? Did you know there was a difference between the two?
For those of you who have littles or grands, let them help set the cocoa bar up! It’s a great memory maker. You can see how easy this process is in my post 5 Easy Steps to Build a Cozy & Festive Hot Cocoa Bar.
4.) Random Acts of Kindness
Light up someone’s holidays! Create lasting memories this holiday season by sharing the gift of kindness.
Leaving a small gift on someone’s doorstep can literally change the day for some people. You can decorate someone’s tree, shovel a neighbor’s driveway, take an elderly neighbor or friend homemade dinner or bake them a delicious treat.
I’m a firm believer that when you give you get back in heartfelt ways!
5.) Winter Hike
How does escaping the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season and taking a long winter hike sound? There is so much beauty that surrounds us. While snow may not be falling where you live, the winter season still offers opportunities to connect with nature’s quiet beauty.
Take a thermos of hot chocolate or coffee with you!
Volunteering during the holidays is a beautiful way to spread cheer and make a real difference in your community. While the holiday season can be a busy time for everyone, there are many opportunities to give back that are flexible and fit your schedule.
Here are a few ideas for volunteering during the holidays:
- Wrap gifts at a donation center or toy drive location
- Visit an assisted living facility or nursing home
- Donate blood or plasma
- Serve a meal at a soup kitchen in your area
Even small acts of kindness can go a long way during the holiday season. So get out there and spread some cheer!
7.) Board Game or Movie Night
Host a board game or a movie night! You can make it fun by having everyone wear an ugly sweater or holiday pajamas. Below are some ideas for one or the other.
Movie Night Magic
- Pick out a family friendly holiday movie
- Create a cozy atmosphere with Christmas pillows and blankets

Game Night Thrills
