Fall Flair on a Budget: Sunflower Napkin Decoupage

I honestly love working with decoupage. I find it so relaxing! Using decoupage is a fantastic way to add a touch of creativity and personality to any object, and it’s incredibly budget-friendly. We all like budget-friendly, right?

Napkins are thin and easy to work with, making them ideal for decoupage crafting projects like this one.

Gather Your Supplies: Essential Tools for Decoupage

Gathering your supplies won’t break the bank for this DIY. There are only four supplies needed. If you are the crafty type, you may have all but the napkins for this project. If you choose, you can paint the stem with some gold paint or rub and buff. I decided to leave the stem as is.

• White craft pumpkin
• Sunflower napkins
• Mod Podge
• Small foam brush

Unleashing the Sunflower Power: Decoupage Techniques

The first step to create your sunflower pumpkin, is to carefully separate the layers of the napkin. Once divided, start cutting out the individual sunflower patterns from the napkins. My advice, take your time when cutting out the flowers. You don’t want to tear the sunflower. I used a regular pair of scissors, however, you might opt for using a smaller pair, if your pattern is more detailed.

Cutting Tip: Cut close to the edge of the pattern and separate the plies before gluing to keep the napkin smooth!

You can begin applying them to the pumpkin using Mod Podge as the medium. Start by brushing a thin layer of it to a section of the pumpkin, then carefully place the sunflower pattern on top. Smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles with the foam brush or your fingers. However, there is something to consider. If the Mod Podge dries too quickly, and you use your fingers, they may stick and tear the napkin. For that reason, I prefer using the foam brush.

Continue adding more sunflowers until you’ve covered the entire surface of the pumpkin to your desired design. Let all your sunflowers dry thoroughly. Dry times can vary depending on where you are crafting, but usually takes about 20 minutes. Once completely dry, add a thin layer of decoupage over each sunflower. Once dried, your project is complete! It’s that simple!
