A Simple Springtime Door Basket with Tulips

Spring has sprung, and spring in Michigan is worth celebrating, especially after a long winter! One of my favorite ways to welcome the season is with a little something on my exterior doors. This door basket came together with tulips fresh from my garden, a few faux stems from my stash, and supplies I already had. Simple, pretty, and budget-friendly. My kind of project!

It’s that time of the month again where some of my blogging friends and I do a Pinterest Challenge, hosted by my friend Cindy from County Road 407. This month’s challenge was a spring door decor. I’ll be sharing a simple springtime door basket with tulips.

Springtime Door Basket – Supplies

The supplies for this particular door decor are minimal. Therefore, you may have some of these supplies in your home decor stash already.

Creating the Basket

For my interpretation I used faux and real flowers. Honestly, I have so many faux flowers that it seemed a waste not to use those. The tulips I cut from my own gardens. I did need to purchase the heather.

Most times, when I create a floral arrangement I use those green floral blocks. I tried a floral block first but it showed through the basket weave, so I switched to natural moss in a large zip lock bag. Using the clear zip lock bag prevented the moss from sticking out through the holes of the basket.

First, I used the faux pathos and heather on either side of the basket. The nice thing about faux is that you can bend the branches to look the way you want. I then added the faux peonies and white hydrangeas.

Lastly, I ran out to my yard and cut some of my tulips. Since the squirrels and rabbits have loved eating my tulips this spring, I was happy to cut some down for my enjoyment! I placed each one in a water tube and added them to my basket.

You can easily make this kind of basket arrangement with branches and whatever florals you have growing in your yard and use it on the inside of your door or on the outside.

Look for a flat-back basket that will hang flush against the door. Wicker or woven work great. I found mine at Michael’s but Amazon has some great ones. I linked one above for you!

Yes! Using all faux works great for exterior doors as it will hold up to wind and various weather. Just bend the stems to get a natural look.

Each small tube holds water and seals around the stem, keeping your fresh flowers hydrated for several days or up to a week, depending on the flower.

Yes, that’s one of my favorite things about this basket. Just swap out your florals with the changing season. Think sunflowers for fall and berries and greenery for the winter months.

It sure will! You can use an over the door wreath hanger.

  11. The squirrels and rabbits have been eating your tulips? Oh, no…hope that doesn’t happen here! I finally planted bulbs all over last Fall and I’m so looking forward to seeing them! Darn pests:( Your floral basket is so pretty with the mix of faux and real. Definitely a Happy Spring greeting!
