Get ready to craft a heartwarming Valentine’s Day decoration! This fun and easy DIY craft project will guide you through creating a charming heart wreath adorned with colorful pom-poms. It’s a perfect activity for a cozy afternoon, and the finished product will bring a smile to everyone’s face.
Can you believe it’s almost February? It’s one of my favorite months with the Super Bowl, my birthday, and Valentine’s Day! While I don’t usually go all out with decorations, I couldn’t resist making this adorable pom-pom heart wreath this year. I’m excited to share this easy project with you!
It takes a little work making all the pom poms, but the cheerleader in me had so much fun! Once they’re made, putting the wreath together is simple and quick.
Who doesn’t like simple?

Gather Your Supplies
To create this charming pom-pom heart wreath, you’ll need a few simple materials. Take a look at the supply list below so you can gather everything you need before we begin.
Making the Pom Poms
Next up, making the colorful pom-poms! This is a simple and fun process that will result in adorable, fluffy decorations for your heart wreath. There will typically be four pom pom makers in a package. If not, you may have to buy two different size packages to get what you need. I used the three biggest ones to create my pom poms.
The vibrant hues of the variegated yarn called to me for the largest pom poms, while I opted for classic white and pink in equal measure for the remaining sizes.
Obviously, you can use whatever combination of yarn that makes your heart happy!
The number of pom-poms you make will determine how full your wreath is. I placed mine close together to create a fuller look.
Using the pom pom makers will simplify the task. You just wind the yarn around each side, fold them into the center, cut the yarn down the middle and pull together with a separate piece of yarn.
Once you make the pom poms you may have some straggling pieces of yarn. Carefully trim those away. If necessary, use your scissors to gently shape the pom-pom into a perfectly round form.
Assembling the Heart of the Wreath
Now that we have our vibrant pom-poms ready, it’s time to assemble the heart of our wreath! This is where your colorful creations will come together to form a truly lovely decoration.
When tying the pom poms to the wire wreath, I started with the smallest pom pom on the inner most circle and worked my way out.
It’s important to secure the pom poms tightly and double knot them. If you don’t, they will slide and you may need to add more pom poms.
Just a heads up, as you work your way to the second and third rows, it does get kind of crowded when you are tying them on the wire.

Showcasing Your Heartfelt Creation
Hanging your pom pom masterpiece is the final step! Here are a few options, depending on your desired look and placement:
Classic Charm:
- Twine Time: For a rustic, natural vibe, simple twine is a great choice. Tie a secure loop around the top of the wreath and knot it. Then, hook the twine onto a nail or screw on your door or wall.
Festive Flair:
- Ribbon Rendezvous: Add a pop of color and cheer with festive ribbon. Choose a ribbon that complements your pom poms and tie a big, beautiful bow at the top. You can hang it directly with the bow or loop the ribbon through a wreath hanger.
Door Delight:
- Wreath Hanger Haven: Invest in a sturdy wreath hanger specifically designed for doors. These typically come with hooks or loops that you can easily attach your pom pom creation to. They’ll keep your wreath level and secure, especially if you’re hanging it on a windy spot.
