Patriotic Snack Jars: A Red, White and Blue Mimi and Me Project?
I love doing crafts with my granddaughters and they’ve grown up enjoying them, too. My oldest especially loves crafting and she always asks what crafts were making when we are together.

These patriotic snack jars are the perfect Mimi and Me project. They’re so easy to assemble, full of red, white and blue treats, and ideal for the patriotic holiday. Whether you’re hosting a 4th of July backyard BBQ, heading to a fireworks picnic, or simply creating holiday memories together, this simple kid-friendly DIY makes a sweet way to share the spirit of Independence Day.
Supplies You’ll Need for DIY Patriotic Snack Jars
First things first, before you start layering all that red, white, and blue goodness, gather your supplies. This easy 4th of July craft doesn’t require much. Just a few simple items, some you might already have around the house. I did purchase some red, white and blue M&M’s and Swedish Fish. However, you can use any red, white and blue candy you want. Just make sure the treat is proportionate to the size mason jar you’re using.

If you have a bulk food store in your area, it’s a great place to shop for red, white and blue candy. Depending on what you are looking for, they will have a really big variety to choose from.
How to Layer Your Red, White & Blue Snack Mix
Start by grabbing your mason jars and remove the lids. Creating your patriotic snack mix is as simple as layering your favorite red, white, and blue goodies inside the mason jar…with a few anxious hands!
There’s no right or wrong way to layer your patriotic snack mix. My only rule is to just have fun with it! When we made ours, we didn’t follow any specific layering order. We simply added a white layer, a red layer, and a festive mix of red, white, and blue, until the jar was full.
The best part? Letting the kids decide! All of our patriotic snack jars are in different orders. Whether they want to start with marshmallows, toss in some pretzels, or sprinkle in patriotic M&M’s on top, it’s all about creativity and doing it together.
