Easy Breezy Summer Home Tour

Today, I am so honored to be joining some of my very talented blogging friends for the Bloggers Best Summer Home Tour, hosted by Kelly at The Tattered Pew. Today I’m sharing my easy breezy summer home tour.

It has been an exciting start to the week seeing so many beautiful homes! If you are coming over from my friend Leen at Sand Dollar Lane, wasn’t her summer decor fabulous? So inspiring!

If this is your first time here, let me say I am so glad you found your way! My name is Kim. I am married, have three grown sons, a daughter-in-law and an amazing granddaughter. I am a native Michigander and I love all things home decor, DIY, painted furniture, vintage items, hot tea and community with others!

Oh, I almost forgot….I make blankets for a cause. You can read all about that in my previous blog post, The Journey.

Affiliate links are used in this post. Read my full disclosure here.

Well, enough about me. Let’s get on with my home tour!

I’m all about easy breezy, budget friendly decor, yet pretty.

Don’t you agree?

When I think about summer, I think of vibrant colors. Bright, happy spaces.

Inside and outside.

And so today I am sharing just that…a space inside my home and one outside my home.

My Master Bedroom

First up, is my master bedroom refresh. In the winter months, I tend to leave the decor in my bedroom adorned in solid colors. Once the warm weather hits the Mitten, out come all the patterns and color!

Can I get a big “Yes”  for floral, stripes and plaids all mixed together? The more the merrier, in my opinion!

Do you ever move items around in your home? Moving things around, from room to room, put’s a new spin on decorating. It’s a great way to get a new look without spending a dime. If you don’t have the ability to move big items around, start small. Moving a vase, picture, or a lamp can totally change the look of a room. The vase below was moved from my back entry table, to my master bedroom, and as a result, it feels like something new in the room!

While winter had me hunkered down, dreaming about warm weather, I bought some beautiful floral drapes. Thinking they would be the perfect update in the master, I used them as my starting point for this project. Turns out, they were just that!

Perfect!

They didn’t break the bank, they are lined and are very high quality.

And aren’t the colors so pretty?!

The blanket rack was another piece I moved. Switching up some of the throws helped give it a summer look.

Summer Linens

Changing the linens on my bed came next. I don’t know about you, but I have a thing for quilts, throws and pillows. I pulled out a yellow quilt I already had and some pillows from my decor stash. Changing out the grey buffalo check quilt, for the yellow one, was a much needed update. As you can see below, the buffalo check quilt is striped on the other side, so I decided to use it for some added texture. Mimicking the colors from the drapes, I added some throw pillows, to complete the look I was going for.

My only upcoming plan for this room….new furniture!

Maybe I’ll paint it…stayed tuned!

A Reading Corner

Who has a place where they love to read?

In the middle of the pandemic, I created a reading space in our master. Having a place to sit quiet and read has been such a gift. There was a throw hanging over this comfy chair, which I removed and added a cream colored pillow. It gives it a softer, summer feel. Remember that vase with the sweet summer flowers that I moved from my back entry?? Well, I set it on the floor next to the chair and I am pleased with the way it looks.

Last but not least, a picture of me, my hubby and our youngest on the beach in Cozumel. The perfect summer vibe added to our nightstand!

That’s it for the master bedroom. Now let me take you to our patio.

My Easy Breezy Backyard Patio

We spend so much time on our patio in the summer. Whether it is a quick dinner after work, wind-down time in the evening or a Sunday family day, it’s a space we love. A few years ago, we added a pergola and it sure helps shielding the afternoon sun. If you don’t have one and your backyard gets that afternoon sun, I highly recommend getting one. Not only does it help shade the patio, it adds such a pretty element. I added string lights to ours, which is so fun!

This season, I chose to use yellow, salmon, red and orange for my outdoor decor.

Let me just say, my flowers are booming already! They make the patio look so much more inviting.

In my opinion, throw pillows are an essential decor item. For being so small they can make a big statement. I added two multi-colored floral pillows, and two bright yellow ones for the patio set. Just enough to give the furniture some color.

If you know me, you know I love setting a pretty table and that is no exception to dining outside. I wanted something that was easy, durable and festive.

I bought these plastic fruit-tossed plates and paired them with some clear plastic tumblers I already had. They were perfect! I added some green napkins to give the table a bright pop of color.

The Patio

Our back porch that leads to the patio is small, however, I love to make sure she looks pretty, too! Stacking my flower pots gives the porch a fuller look. By mid-summer they all look so beautiful. Adding a coordinating wreath to the back door gives it the final touch. Never underestimate the power of a pretty porch! In any case, if you get the chance, hop on over and check out my spring porches I decorated, this year.

Well, that’s it from my Cottage in the Mitten!

I hope you enjoyed my summer home tour.  I hope you come visit again….the door is always open!

Please make sure you stop by and see my friend Kathy at Up to Date Interiors. You definitely won’t want to miss it!
