Gathering Grace: A New Series About Home, Faith, and the Moments We Almost Miss

There is a word I keep coming back to as of late, and it’s this: ordinary. Not in a small way, or something to just brush past, but ordinary as in full of grace that we almost miss.

I’ve been thinking about the things inside our homes and the spaces that surround them. Things like the table where we gather, the gardens and flowers that we tend to, the porches where we linger, and the threshold that we cross again and again without a second thought. When you really stop to think about it, these places ask nothing of us. They simply hold us right where we are. Without words, quietly, and faithfully, they shape us in ways we don’t always realize. That’s what my new series, Gathering Grace: Wisdom for Your Home and Beyond is all about.

Why This Series

If you’ve been following me since the beginning, you know I’ve been writing here for a long time now. Six plus years to be exact! If there is one thing I’ve learned from this journey is that we are all, in our own way, trying to make a home that means something. Something that makes our hearts happy.

I’m not talking about a perfect home. Not a magazine home (although that would be fun), but a home where people want to come, and where they want to return. A home that is surrounded by your favorite things and the one place that always feels comfortable. A home that even on the hard days whispers you belong here.

If we are willing to pay close attention, I believe the spaces we call home hold so much wisdom. Wisdom that bypasses us in the busyness of each day. A table isn’t just furniture. A garden isn’t just soil and sunlight. An open door isn’t just the thing you walk through when you arrive home.

What You Can Expect From Gathering Grace

Each month in my new series, we’ll slow down together and look closely at one element of home and life. I’ll share what’s on my heart, what I’ve been learning, remembering, and discovering what it means to live gracefully and grateful in the places God has given us.

I pray some of these posts make you pause and reflect, helping you to see your home with brand new eyes. Some posts will be practical and full of gentle encouragement. Most of all, each one will be rooted in the truth that God is present in the daily moments of our lives, the extraordinary and ordinary.

A Personal Word

Many of you know our family’s story. My son Mitchell’s diagnosis, the years of watching and praying, the blankets that I’ve sewn, and the hope I’ve cut and stitched into every one of them. Praying for a cure. That journey has changed how I see everything, including my home.

It has taught me not to take the ordinary for granted. Not the table where we gather and share a meal. Not the chair where someone used to sit. Not the window where the afternoon sun fills my home office space, each day the same way it always has, faithful as a promise.

Mitchell’s walk has been at time more than difficult, but if his story and our journey as family has given me anything, it is this…every ordinary moment is a gift. There is beauty in each one. Gathering Grace is my attempt to help us all see and receive it as such.

There’s a Seat for You Here

Our first topic? The Table. Because there is so much that happens there. So much more than we sometimes realize. I can’t wait to share it with you. If this series speaks to your heart and you know someone who you think would benefit from it, I’d be honored if you let friends and family know, as well.

Until then, I am so glad you’ve stopped by. And remember, there’s always a seat for you here!
