This year, there are a number of new and exciting holiday home decor trends that are sure to add a festive touch to your space.
Whether you’re looking for traditional or modern holiday decorations, there’s something for everyone in 2023. In this blog post, I’ll share my top picks for the hottest holiday home decor trends of the year. So read on to get inspired and start decorating your home for the holidays!

Holiday Home Decor Trends
I’m a classic or traditional Christmas kind of girl. I have always gravitated to the reds and greens of Christmas and those items that remind me of Christmas’ past. However, no matter what your style is, there are plenty of ways to incorporate the latest holiday home decor trends into your home.
There are several tree colors or themes for the holiday, this year. Natural elements are big this season! Think pinecones, woodsy elements and colors, gold and metalic accents. Blues and pinks are popular colors for Christmas tree decorations, but the classic Christmas tree is always in style.
Below are some other popular home decor holiday trends:
- Plaid
- Ginger Bread Houses
- Gold and Metalic Accents
- Garland
- Vintage and Flocked Ornaments
- Bells
- Mushroom themed items

Holiday Garland
Do you use garland in your home? I believe garland is versatile and a festive way to decorate your home for Christmas. You can use them to adorn your fireplace mantel, staircase, doorways, and even your Christmas tree. Below are my favorite choices for this holiday season!
Magnolia Real Touch Cedar Mix Garland
Magnolia Multi-Colored Felt Garland
The Magnolia felt garland is my current favorite!

Magnolia Dried Citrus Slice Garland
Afloral The Original Real Touch Norfolk Pine Garland

One trend you will see everywhere, is orange slice garland. Making your own dried orange slices is easy, and I’ll be doing it again this Christmas. You can check out my post How to Make Dried Orange Slices for Christmas Decorations and see how I made my own garland last year.
Tree Collars
Snowflake Christmas Tree Skirt
Antique Brass Finish Tree Collar

Plaids
Plaid is all the rage this holiday season and I am here for it! What says traditional Christmas more than plaid? Did you see the DIY Tartan Plaid Photo Frames I recently made? They’re a Pottery Barn dupe, easy to make and cost less than half the retail price!
Aren’t they festive and pretty?

You’ll be seeing more plaid in my home decor and in stores this season. I’ve gathered some really good pieces for your home too!

Bells
Bells have a long history of being part of Christmas. They were also used to announce the birth of Jesus Christ and bells are also rung in churches and cathedrals on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Today, bells are still used at Christmas to celebrate the season and to create a festive atmosphere. You will find bells on Christmas trees, wreaths, garlands, and other decorations.

Last year, I used two large jingle balls and I will be incorporating them into my decor this holiday season, too. You can see how I used them in my post How to Create a Festive Entryway for Christmas.
Remember friends, you don’t have to buy everything brand new each year. Changes are people won’t notice what you use from year to year.

Metal Tibetan Bells – Set of 3
Gingerbread
Gingerbread is a popular Christmas home decor trend this year. It’s everywhere. Gingerbread is a fun and festive way to add some cheer to your home.
Ornaments
I have done theme trees but love mix and matching best. When decorating your home for the holidays, don’t be afraid to mix and match old and new ornaments. This will create a unique and eclectic look and your guests will love it.
Using a variety of shapes, sized and colors makes for a visually interesting display!

Speaking of ornaments, did you see my post on How to Make Easy Vintage Ornaments. These are perfect for your Christmas tree, gift giving or using as a pretty tag on any Christmas present.

Christmas Stockings
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care…
Well, I have no mantle, over my fireplace, so my stockings are hung on the stair banister with care. Wherever you hang your stockings, you still need them, right?
Magnolia Folklore Embroidered Stocking
Cream Tweed and Faux Fur Stocking

Christmas Pillows
No matter the season, give me all the pillows! I love changing out my pillows for the seasons and the holidays. If you are on a budget, buy a few 20 x 20 pillow inserts and purchase pillow covers separately. Pillow covers are typically less expensive than decorative pillows.
I consider myself a pillow expert. If you saw my pillow stash, you’d think so too!
