Mitten Moments

Happy Sunday, friends! Before you head into your day, grab your favorite cup of. I’ve gathered a few special Mitten Moments just for you. Take a moment to slow down, soak up a little inspiration, and enjoy the beauty in the simple things!

It’s finally planting season in Michigan! I spent the better part of this week, buying, planting and feeling accomplished…and a little sore! I’ll keep you posted on all my garden progress, this year. I’ve planted a few things that are new to me and I’m excited to see how they do!

“The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul.” – Alfred Austin

My Personal Moments

  • Our raised bed garden is at our youngest son’s home. While planting the garden, I couldn’t resist to cut some of his Snowmound White Spirea. They’re perfect for large vessels and they smell so good, too!

  • I’ve been binge watching all the Mission Impossible movies. I’ve always liked Tom Cruise as an actor and have seen most of the MI movies, but with a new one coming out at the end of May, I thought it was time for a little refresh. Are you a fan too?
  • Speaking of things to watch, have you seen The Quilters on Netflix? It’s a short documentary that offers an intimate look into a unique quilting program within Missouri’s South Central Correctional Center. The film follows incarcerated men who, through the prison’s Restorative Justice Organization, design and sew personalized quilts for foster children. Being a quilter, I really enjoyed it! The Quilters highlights how creativity and compassion can flourish even in the most unexpected places. (BTW…does anyone know that I was a Criminal Justice major in college?)

“We have a lot of books in our house. They are our primary decorative motif-books in piles and on the coffee table, framed book covers, books sorted into stacks on every available surface, and of course books on shelves along most walls. Besides the visible books, there are books waiting in the wings, the basement books, the garage books, the storage locker books…They function as furniture, they prop up sagging fixtures and disguised by quilts function as tables…I can’t imagine a home without an overflow of books.” – Louise Erdrich, Books and Islands in Ojibwe Country
