Hey friends! I hope your long holiday weekend has been full of family, friends, and fun celebrating the 4th of July! If you’re in a heatwave like me and looking for a reason to slow down, grab a cool drink, and escape the heat for just a bit, I’d love for you to find a shady spot and catch up on this week’s Mitten Moments.

The summer heat has definitely hit the Mitten, and like many of you, I’ve been doing my best to stay cool. Unfortunately, we haven’t had much rain, so we’ve been watering the garden overtime. Thankfully, even without the rain, life in the garden is good and a reminder of how much beauty comes from a well watered garden!

My Personal Moments
- We had a family getaway last week and it was amazing to spend time quality time together! We rented a cobblestone farmhouse on a cherry orchard in Leland, Michigan. It’s along the Lake Michigan shoreline and Big Al and I have been taking our family there, each summer, for about twenty-two years. The little Fishtown holds so many wonderful memories for our family! Have you every been? If not, I’m going to write a blog all about it. It’s the perfect family vacation spot!

- Have you heard the good news? The cast from Downton Abbey has filmed their final movie. It premiers in theaters September 12th and you better believe I’ll be dragging Big Al to see it on the first day.
- My hydrangeas are in full bloom and they are large and in charge in my flower garden! I’ve had such great luck that I’m now planning to add more around my home. Do you grow hydrangeas? If so, and you’d like to learn how to dry them, you can see my easy beginner’s tutorial HERE.

A Few of My Favorite Moments
I’m a big fan of anything with pecans. When I saw this Leche Quemada recipe from Crissy at My Tex Mex, I knew I’d have to put it on my list to make. With only three simple ingredients anyone can make it!

My good friend Jennifer from Cottage on Bunker Hill is the best wreath maker! Her DIY Enchanted Wreath is my favorite one, yet. Jennifer turned an old grapevine wreath into fairy magic with some dried flowers, the cutest mushrooms, and a fairy, of course! Make sure to check it out. I know you’ll love it, too!

Did you know it was National Ice Cream month? Well, me either, but I’m here for it! My friend Elizabeth from Pinecones & Acorns shared her 10 No-Churn Ice Cream Recipes. I never realized how easy no-churn ice cream was to make. Thanks to Elizabeth, now I can make my own!

And Now…
Here are some other WONDERFUL moments I found:
This New England clam chowder recipe
This countryside estate is classic yet playful
This gluten free lemon drizzle cake
How to decoupage clay pots with napkins
These grilled sweet potatoes for the best side dish

Kim,
Happy and blessed Sunday to you. It has been a heartbreaking week with the news in Texas. I am praying that they find the missing.
I was born in Michigan and lived there many years but I have never heard of this town. I would love to hear more about it and your family memories there.
It has been hot here in NC and this week our air conditioning did not work. That was “fun.” No hotels available because of a golf tournament. Thankfully it rained 2 days and the house cooled off from 90 inside to about 80. Unfortunately 2 days we could not sleep at all. Everything is fixed and fingers crossed it will keep us cool.
THANK YOU Kim for sharing my ice cream. I hope that you make some for your grands, it is so easy.
Have a wonderful week, enjoy your summer and your garden!
I’m so sorry you were without air! Definitely not fun in this horrible heatwave we’ve been having. We didn’t have central air growing up, until I was about 18. Sometimes, I wonder how we made it! I hope you get to read my Leland post. A beautiful place to make great memories! 💚
Thanks for sharing my wreath, friend!!!
You’re welcome!
