Mitten Moments

It’s the last Sunday of October and November is just around the corner. Can you believe it? Anyway, Sunday means it’s time for Mitten Moments. A time to slow down, and soak in all the good things I have to share with you this weekend!

My Personal Moments

  • I recently took the ferry over to Harsens Island where my good friend lives. She spends part of her time here in the Mitten on the island and part-time at her resort in Mexico. Since she’ll be heading south soon, she decided to decorate her home for Christmas early, so everything is ready and waiting when she returns in December. I had the pleasure of helping her decorate. The island views are beautiful for October and we had such a fun day. Funny story, she also has a family of turkeys that eat from her bird feeders and lay around outside her kitchen window. So crazy! I wonder if they realize Thanksgiving is less than a month away?
  • Halloween is this week! I have a new book recommendation for you and it’s perfect for the spooky vibe. Remain by Nicholas Sparks and M. Night Shyamalan weaves romance and a haunting twist. When tragedy tears two souls apart, a mysterious force gives them one last chance to find each other beyond the boundaries of life and death. I love both authors and really looking forward to this one. If you read it, let me know what you think!

This season, it’s all about sweaters with personality. Animal designs are everywhere and this midweight fox sweater layers easily under a jacket or vest.

Even though my pumpkins and mums are still reigning on the porch, I’m starting to think about my decor for the Christmas holiday. Last week, I shared my DIY Tartan Plaid Photo Frame. It’s such an easy DIY and the frame is a Pottery Barn look-a-like, without the price! If you’re a traditional girl who loves a little bit of plaid for the holidays, this is the craft for you!

A traditional Christmas vignette featuring two framed prints—a pine tree sketch and a reindeer sketch—set in red plaid picture frames. The frames are flanked by two rustic twine cone trees and accented with bright red artificial berries. A large metal medallion wall hanging is visible in the background, completing the farmhouse holiday decor.

I love receiving and giving handmade gifts. Stephanie from Returning Grace shared How to Make DIY Fire Starters with Beeswax. Not only is thoughtful and pretty, it’s the perfect little something to share with family and friends!

Are you hosting Thanksgiving or maybe you’re just looking for a beautiful fall table centerpiece? If so, Stacy from Bricks ‘n Blooms shows you how to make her DIY Pumpkin Flower Arrangement.
