Mitten Moments

Happy Sunday, friends! A warm welcome back to my Cottage. As I navigate the last few weeks of the Michigan winter, I find myself looking for ways to bring a little bit of spring into my home. This week, in my Mitten Moments, you’ll find something new to bake, amazing DIYs and more. So, grab your favorite cup of tea (or coffee) and let’s get started!

My Personal Moments

  • A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I had recently picked-up a new make-up palette from Laura Geller. I promised I’d keep you posted and I’m happy to report that I love it! If you are looking for a quick and easy make-up routine, this is for you!
  • We enjoyed paczki day last week Tuesday. It’s a wonderful Midwest tradition, particularly in Michigan, where we celebrate Fat Tuesday by indulging in these rich, deep-fried Polish donuts. Originally it was a way for Polish immigrants to use up all the lard, sugar and fruit in the house before the Lenten fast. Our local bakeries draw massive crowds. Have you ever had a paczki? I had a raspberry one and it was delish!
  • Have you been watching the Olympics? I’ve enjoyed watching each day. Especially the US women’s and men’s hockey. If you don’t know, the women took Gold! Fingers crossed the men take Gold today!

It’s Not Her by Mary Kubica follows a woman’s desparate search for truth after her sister’s sudden disappearance leads to a web of family secrets and deception.

Recently on the Blog

We recently had a taste of a 50 degree day. However, anyone who lives in Michigan knows a day like that is just a tease in February. Even though I love the winter months, I admit I’ve been dreaming about spring. Maybe it has to do with the many days of below zero temps!

If you missed my post Five Things Making My Cottage Home Cozier This Week make sure to give it a read. I shared some great ways to bring the slow spring into your home while the calendar still says winter!

A Few of My Favorite Moments

I’m a big fan of anything lemon. However, Elizabeth from Pinecones & Acorns definitely caught my attention with her Triple Citrus Quick Bread. It’s fresh and the perfect go to with breakfast or, in my case, afternoon tea!

I’ve always thought it would be fun to try my hand at homemade butter, however, I was always a little intimidated by it. Stephanie from Returning Grace shared How to Make Homemade Butter and Buttermilk and now I feel confident I can do it!

I think we could all use some greenery and plant life right about now. My good buddy, Jennifer from Cottage on Bunker Hill teaches us how to make a Succulent & Cactus Terrarium Bowl. She shares how to effectively layer and handle each plant. If you’re searching for greenery for your home, this is a great DIY project to try.

Local in the Mitten

For this week’s Local in the Mitten I’m sharing Rose House Brunch. The restaurant has a sophisticated and charming environment, making it a popular place for special birthdays and girls’ day outings. When my good friend Jennifer from Cottage on Bunker Hill came to the Mitten, we had brunch here and it did not disappoint!

The interior is defined by a curated Audrey Hepburn theme. Visitors are greeted by vibrant floral decorations, glitz and gold accents, and a soft color palette that includes pink and turquoise velvet upholstery. The perfect gal-pal destination!

  1. I am definitely trying the citrus quick loaf. Might even make one on this snowy Michigan day for a bit of sunshine!
