Mitten Moments

Happy Sunday, friends! Welcome to another edition of Mitten Moments! I am so glad you’re here to spend a little part of your day with me. This week has been all about embracing the simple joys and moments to be thankful for. From sidewalk chalk, to the nostalgia of a classic Detroit landmark. Whether you’re stopping by for a bit of inspiration or just a moment to enjoy, I hope today’s post brings a touch of warmth and encouragement to your weekend.

My Personal Moments

  • For those of you who have followed me for a long time, you know my blog was founded because of my middle son, Mitchell. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor at 16 (he’s now 31) and this road has been a part of his story every since. I would appreciate your prayers for a clear MRI, as he had his annual one this morning. If you aren’t familiar with his story, you can read about The Journey and the blankets I make in hopes to find a cure.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

A man and woman dressed in formal attire standing together on a mezzanine overlooking a grand ballroom. The man is wearing a black suit with a burnt orange tie, and the woman is wearing a floor-length black one-shoulder dress with a side slit. They are smiling in front of a decorative gold railing with arches in the background.
  • I got a boost of energy and went into the basement to purge. I can’t be the only one whose basement could use a good one. Out of nowhere, I found one of those tiny green army guys. I had a major flashback to when my sons would play with them for hours. That one little toy made my heart so happy. An unexpected, sweet moment, and beautiful memory found all while purging.
  • I bought some new sidewalk chalk for my precious grands. It’s amazing how much entertainment $2 can still buy!

Local in the Mitten

For many of us in the Mitten, the name J.L. Hudson brings back fond memories of bustling afternoons in downtown Detroit and the legendary Maurice salad. My aunt worked in the department store and I fondly remember going to see her there. While the iconic department store is part of history, that nostalgic spirit lives on at The Hudson Cafe. With locations in both downtown Detroit, Northville and Troy, they offer a beautiful nod to the past. Whether you’re craving that famous salad with it’s signature dressing or looking to celebrate brunch with the gals, it’s a wonderful place to experience a taste of Detroit’s heritage!

A Few of My Favorite Moments

Raise your hand if you love a good no-bake dessert? My good friend, KariAnne from Thistlewood Farms shared 7 Easy No Bake Recipes. I was all in with the words ‘easy’ and ‘no-bake’!

Individual servings of no-bake chocolate icebox cake in mason jars, featuring layers of chocolate cookies and cream, garnished with cherries and chocolate chips on a bright white tabletop.

If you know me, you know I’m a tea lover through and through! Leslie from My 100 Year Old Home shared Twelve Fun and Unexpected Ways to Use Tea Bags. Who knew there were so many uses?

Creative uses for tea bags: a cozy tea flat-lay with dried botanicals, dark chocolate, and seasonal fruit on a vintage wood background.

My next share is a fun and whimsical centerpiece perfect for your spring table. Shelley from Calypso and the Country showed how to create and Asparagus Vase.

A unique spring floral arrangement featuring white tulips in a vase wrapped with fresh green asparagus stalks. The asparagus is held in place with a simple jute twine bow, and the entire centerpiece sits on a small white plate on a dark wood table.
