Mitten Moments

Happy Sunday from the cloudy Mitten! Overcast days are my favorite excuse to turn on the lamps, settle in for the day, and spend some time with all of you. From easy seasonal recipes and simple home decor tips, I’ve rounded up a little bit of everything in today’s post.

Mitten Moments is my weekly Sunday post where I share a little slice of life from the Cottage, what’s been going on around here, some of my favorite finds, and posts from my blogging friends that I just know you’re going to love. I’m so glad you’re here!

My Personal Moments

  • Big Al and I took the train to Wrigley Field in Chicago to watch the Tigers take on the Cubs. With great friends in tow, it was a such a wonderful memory made, and the Tigers won! Before we headed back home, I just had to make a quick stop at the American Girl store…you know I’m already thinking ahead for the holidays!

  • In exciting news, I’m finally getting tomatoes on my plants. They’re small, but I’m over here waiting patiently for them to turn red!
  • I recently went to the Detroit Book Festival. I was hoping to snag some well priced used books, but believe it or not, I didn’t find any. Most of the books were $8 and above which is higher than what I usually pay at local discount shops and used bookstores near me. I do love collecting classic book series like Trixie Belden and Nancy Drew, but I completely struck out this time. There were plenty of Hardy Boys books to be had. Not in my collection wheelhouse, but it was fun looking at them! Do you collect books?
  • Speaking of books, I’m planning to restart my book club this fall. A good friend recommended The Second Life of Mirielle West by Amanda Skenandore. I read an excerpt online and was completely hooked! I just bought my copy and can’t wait to read it for book club. If you’ve read it, please let me know what you think!

A Few of My Favorite Moments

Big Al just brought home some zucchini from his work friend’s garden. I came across this wonderful recipe for Corn and Zucchini Orzo from Maria at Two Peas & Their Pod and couldn’t wait to try it. What a blessing to have fresh veggies and an amazing recipe to use them in!

A light blue bowl filled with creamy corn and zucchini orzo pasta, topped with toasted breadcrumbs, fresh basil leaves, and red pepper flakes, served with a silver spoon.

There’s still plenty of summer left and the perfect time to dine outside. Leslie from My 100 Year Old Home shared her Summer Outdoor Table Decor Ideas. Beautiful ideas for your next meal outdoors.
