Happy Sunday from the rainy Mitten. I can’t complain because we haven’t had a ton of rain this summer. Just enough to keep things green. If it’s raining where you are, or you’re just looking for something to do, check out my weekly round-up I have for you today, in my Mitten Moments!
If you’re new here, welcome! Mitten Moments is my weekly newsletter where I share my moments plus some fun finds from my friends. Plus, I’ll give you sneak peek into my upcoming blog posts, so you can be the first to know what’s new.
It’s here…August, is here! Hard to believe that it’s already that time of year. The time when the nights begin to get cool and the sounds of high-pitched cicadas remind us that summer is on it’s way out. I tell my granddaughter that the cicadas are singing their summer song. A story I hope she always remembers, each summer when they sing.

“August rain: the best of the summer gone, and the new fall not yet born. The odd uneven time.”
— Sylvia Plath
My Personal Mitten Moments
- Are you a movie fan? I mean do you like to go to the theatre? I love to see the “big” movies on the big screen, everything else I can watch at home. Earlier in the week, I saw Oppenheimer. Personal thoughts…the acting was amazing and I’d give it an overall 7 or 8! It’s three hours long, so be prepared if you go see it.
- In sad garden news, our zucchini and acorn squash has powdery mildew. It’s the first bad luck we have had at the family garden. I treated it and they both seem to still be bearing veggies, so that’s a win!
- August 1st hit the books and everyone seems to be talking about fall. Are you ready? I can’t say I’m completely on board, but as a blogger you have to be on board for all the seasonal changes, very early! I did do some shopping, this week, and what do you know? I found these pretty fall items that I just had to have!
Also, have you heard? The biggest color this fall is honey in varias shades and tones. So, get your honey on!
- I borrowed a book from a friend and can’t wait to get into it. Due to the rainy Mitten day, I may start it this afternoon. It’s called The Guest List by Lucy Foley and is a Reese Witherspoon book club pick. It’s a mystery/thriller and it’s said to be like an Agatha Christie classic. Don’t have to twist my arm! I love a good mystery/crime novel!

We’re a big Lake Michigan family! Any of the great lakes for that matter. However, if you’ve never had the opportunity to venture to the west side of the Mitten, the shores of Lake Michigan are a must! The most beautiful sunsets are found there, as well!
Collecting beautiful stones, along those beaches is a fun hobby. I’ve collected pretty treasurers for a long time and was waiting for the perfect DIY craft to use them on.
I found it and I shared with you How to Build an Easy Stone Birdhouse. It’s such a fun and relaxing DIY project. It’s also a great way to perserve your memories of your time at the lake!
