Happy Sunday and welcome to my Mitten Moments! Those moments from the week that I loved and want to share with you!
Halloween is just a few days away! Do you pass out candy or have another tradition you do? We would normally be with our grands, but Big Al is having knee surgery so we will be at home passing out to the neighborhood littles!
Here’s your random fact for the week. Did you know that tri-color candy corn was originally called “chicken feed”. The candy corn recipe was made and marketed in 1898 and before World War I, corn was not thought to be people food. It was coarse and not very tasty, therefore it was used to feed chickens and pigs.
That’s your educational moment for the week!

My Personal Mitten Moments
- Did you watch the first season of The Guilded Age? The second season starts tonight on HBO. If you love period dramas, beautiful costumes, and a great story, this is the show for you!
- I’ve been having my nails done with dip powder for the last three years. I decided to remove them and my nails are a mess. Have you had any experiece with dip powder and repairing your nails after?
- We finally got all our gardens cleaned out and ready for winter. It’s a big job, but better to do it now than wait. Digging up the dahlias is the most time consuming, but the rewards will be great next year. Do you or have you ever grown dahlias?
Below is the last of the flowers I was able to grab. They were still so vibrant!

Although I am currently buying and planning for Christmas, there is still another month of fall left. Well, at least three weeks! Earlier in the week, I shared some seasonal past times! I like doing nothing more than spending time with my family and friends.
Are you looking for some fun activities to do before fall gets away from us? If so, I shared some High-Fun, Low-Effort Ways to Celebrate the Fall Season.

I’m all about decoupage and making an easy DIY. This week, I shared one of my favorite decoupage crafts to date. If you’ve never tried decoupage, my post How to Make a Decoupage Pumpkin with Napkins, shows you the supplies needed and the steps involved. This would be a great centerpiece for your Thanksgiving table!

My Favorite Finds
Where are all my book lovers? Between working full-time, watching grands and blogging, I still make time to read. Reading is a wonderful habit that has many benefits for your mental and physical health! The book below is my next quest. Have you read it?
I love a good slipper during rhe cold winter months. I bought these plaid fuzzy loafer slippers from Amazon and they did not disappoint! They are comfy and warm. Make sure to try them for yourselves!
As you can see, I’ve had plaid on the brain recently. When done right, plaid can be a beautiful and elegant fabric that looks expensive. This double breasted trench coat is the perfect addition to your fall and winter wardrobe.
A Few Of My Favorite Moments
My friend Leslie from Feet Under My Table shared her Candy Corn Popcorn Balls. There is still time to make these and what a fun treat they would be for work, school or the littles in your life!

My buddy Jennifer from Cottage on Bunker Hill makes the prettiest wreaths. Her DIY Thanksgiving Wreath: Crafting with Fresh Greens, Flowers, and Dried Oranges is no acception!
For Thanksgiving or Christmas, her wreath is perfect for the upcoming holiday season.

Do you have your menu set for Thanksgiving? In my opinion, every Thanksgiving table needs a pumpkin pie. My friend Michele from Vintage Home Designs made an Easy Buttermilk Pumpkin Pie with Cinnamon Whipped Cream.
I love pumpkin pie and Michele’s sounds and looks delish, right?!

My next share is from my friend Wendy from WM Design House. Her Air Fryer Roasted Vegetables Best Harvest Salad Recipe could also be a great addition to your holiday menu!

When we meet again, it will be November. November! Can you believe it? In the Mitten, the snow will be flying and Christmas will be here before we know it!
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing plenty of Christmas inspiration for you. Let me know if there is anything in particular you would love to see.

Kim, love your dahlias. We cannot grow them in Phoenix but I may try them at our mountain cabin next year. Beautiful photos and can’t wait to try Wendy’s roasted vegetable salad.
I try a few different ones each year. They bring so much joy during the growing season. Would love to see your pictures if you do try to grow them next year. Have a wonderful week, Mary!
You have certainly been busy this week and next week your going to be a nurse. Is Al having a knee replacement? I hope all goes well. I love that plaid trench coat! Thanks for sharing my salad.
Thanks Wendy! Have a great week!
Love the fun fact about candy corn. I enjoyed asking the hubs if he knew. He did not so kudos to me since he’s always asking me crap that’s useless that I don’t know. 😂
I can see why you like that plaid jacket. It’s fabulous! Where we live it’s hard to get excited about coats. It just doesn’t get cold enough to wear them. So I’ve had my plain black pea coat for years. Makes me want a new coat!
Thanks so much for adding my harvest cake to the lineup. I always appreciate the love and support.
Happy Sunday Kim!
Haha! I’m glad you got the candy corn kudos! Have the best week, Cindy!
Thank you for the book recommendation. I just ordered it. I will let you know if I liked it.
I hope you enjoy! Thanks for stopping by!
I hope your husbands surgery goes beautifully. Hugs to you.
Thanks so much, Renae!

I cannot believe that Fall photo! It is so colorful it looks fake!
So many great links! Love the salad, the wreath and the pice. Pumpkin is my favorite.

Good luck 🍀 tomorrow Al! Kim, those dahlias are gorgeous!! It has been decided, Thanksgiving is back at our house, are a year off, so it’s full steam ahead to get the kitchen finished!! Looking forward to that!!! Happy Halloween 🎃
If you need help with the kitchen let me know! Happy Halloween!
I also live in the beautiful state of Michigan. Here’s what I would like to see for Christmas, ideas for displaying Christmas cards. Thank you!
Ok! Thanks so much for the suggestion!

Of course! Have a great week!
Praying all goes well with Big Al’s surgery! The fall colors where you are are stunning. Thank you for sharing all of your inspiration this week…and my popcorn balls. Who knew that candy corn was called chicken feed? Or that they didn’t eat corn until after WW1? I thought the Indians shared it on Thanksgiving! Haha! I’ll be praying for you guys this week..and that healing goes quickly with minimal pain for Al.
It was a late start but it sure has been a pretty fall. Glad to share your popcorn balls! Thanks so much for the prayers friend! xo
Kim, that photo of the trees is stunning. The colors are so gorgeous. That fact about candy corn was interesting. I had never heard of it. Praying for a speedy recovery for Al so he can get back out golfing.
Wasn’t that a fun fact? Who knew! Thanks for the prayers!
