Happy single digit Sunday, here in Michigan! I’ve had a slow start to my year, but I’m back and ready to share my first Mitten Moments of 2024! Come on over and see all the inspiration I found this past week!

“Let us love winter, for it is the spring of genius.” – Pietro Aretino

What crazy weather the nation has been having. Are you snowed in or maybe water logged? We finally had some measurable snow, in my neck of the Mitten, and I’m loving it! I may like the snow and reasonably cold weather, however, I do not like single digit temps and that is what we are having the next few days.

Muted palette, maximum magic. This is the winter scene that has unfolded just around the corner from my door. Not your postcard winter, but one that whispers its own quiet beauty.

My Personal Mitten Moments

  • We have one empty bedroom in our home. My oldest granddaughter has been asking me to decorate “her bedroom” for a few months. Asking if she could have “the pink room”, aka my She Room, I declined, and I told her she could pick her very own color. After some thought, she decided on blue. So, Big Al and I ordered a new bed with a trundle, some pretty bedding, and we will be painting the granddaughters’ room, this week. Yes, that’s plural! It isn’t just HER bedroom; she has to share with her twin sisters!
  • Just got sucked into “Fool Me Once” on Netflix, based on a Harlan Coben novel! Talk about gripping! Maya’s world shatters after seeing her dead husband on a nanny cam, and the twists kept me guessing until the very end. Have you checked it out yet?
  • Remember that crazy weather and snow I was telling you about? Big Al and I did have some fun with our grand, but it split the tree in my front yard in thirds. That was not so fun! I’ll be on the hunt for a replacement this spring. Do you have a favorite tree you love? If so, please share. I welcome the suggestions.

Are you geared up for Valentine’s Day? Do you even celebrate it? I love the “heart” holiday and have always enjoyed celebrating it.

This week, I shared Crafting with Heart: A Valentine’s Garland DIY Project. If you are a crafter, you probably have all the supplies needed for this project. It’s also simple enough for those of you who don’t always do DIY projects. I made this one for my oldest son and DIL and love seeing it hang on their mantel when we visit!

  1. It IS cold!! Like you, I will take the cold with the sunshine over a gray day (or week…). You might want to look at a tri-color beech for your front yard. They do grow very large, but slowly. The leaves are dark green with white and rose. In the spring and into the summer, the leaves are pink-burgundy-coral; just beautiful. In the fall, the leaves darken to very dark green and then turn bronze. They do well in Michigan.

  2. Looking forward to seeing the new blue girls room! Have a great week. Love the blog on hearts. Doing some crafting myself this week.

  3. How fun to decorate that room! Glad to hear Stacy’s book arrived! I pre-ordered as well so I’ll watch out for mine. Have a great week!

  4. Kim, I cannot wait to see your granddaughters special room. What a wonderful project to do with them. My niece had her own/special room at my moms and she still sleeps there and she is 24. Making memories with the grands is the best.

Thank you for sharing my water tips. If there is one thing we all do this year it should be to drink more water, it is so good for you.

So sorry about your tree! That’s always sad. Stay warm and safe.
