Spring Home Decor Trends: A Guide to Mixing Prints and Patterns

As spring approaches, it’s the perfect time to breathe new life into your home decor. This year, spring is all about embracing the playful world of pattern mixing. From bold spring floral patterns, cheerful stripes and whimsical textures, there’s something for everyone. Today I’ll help you navigate the exciting world of pattern mixing, offering tips and inspiration to create a vibrant and stylish space that reflects your unique personality.

Rooms full of color are making a comeback for 2025 and I couldn’t be happier! “Color-drenching” is an interior design technique that involves using a single color or a very closely related palette of hues throughout an entire room. Color, upon color, upon color! Incorporating prints and patterns within the same color hue is on point and creates a sophisticated and cohesive look! One of my favorite trends this year!

If you’re nervous to try color-drenching, start with a small room in your home. Your laundry room or a small bathroom is the perfect place to test out the bold look.

Other Popular Trends – 2025

  • Bold Flower Prints: Think oversized blooms, dramatic leaves, and patterns that mimic the look of actual paintings.
  • Stripes: Stripes come in countless variations – think bold nautical stripes, delicate pinstripes, wide bands of color, and even chevron patterns. This variety ensures there’s something to suit every taste and style. Pillows, rugs, curtains, and bedding are easy ways to introduce this pattern.
  • Classic Checks and Plaids: This classic pattern is making a comeback and is a great way to refresh your interior design. These patterns continue to remain timeless and are a the perfect compliment with floral, stripes or solid patterns.
  • Geometric Patterns: Think zigzags, chevrons, sunbursts, and stylized motifs made popular by the Art Deco era.

Mixing Prints and Patterns Throughout the Home

I’m a girl who loves color and mixing prints and patterns has always been a favorite of mine. Mastering the art of pattern mixing can transform any room in your home. I’ll share how to effectively blend floral prints with stripes, checks, and other patterns like geometrics and textures in any room to create a vibrant and inviting atmosphere, in your own home.

The Rule of Three: How to Successfully Combine Multiple Patterns

What’s better than two? Three, of course! The Rule of Three is the idea that three different patterns create a more visually interesting and balanced look than just two. A good example would be adding three complimenting color patterns such as a bold floral, a stripe, and a solid. Also, vary the scale of the patterns with different sizes! Use one big, bold pattern, one medium-sized pattern, and one small, delicate pattern together.

For me, color matching is something I love to immerse myself in. Once I find the main fabric for my decor project I then search for patterns, stripes or solids that share a same color or hue. In basic terms, you want to use patterns with shared or complementary color schemes. Mixing stripes and florals are my personal favorites to use.

Remember to have fun and experiment! Start with small changes and gradually introduce more patterns as you gain confidence. Don’t be afraid to try different combinations and see what speaks to you. The more often you dabble in mixing and matching the easier it will become.

    Analogous Colors: Colors next to each other on the color wheel (e.g., blue, blue-green, green) create harmony and a soothing look.
    Monochromatic Colors: Different shades and tints of the same color (e.g., light blue, medium blue, navy) create a sophisticated and elegant appearance.
    Triadic Colors: Colors evenly spaced on the color wheel (e.g., red, yellow, blue) create a vibrant and playful look.

Exploring Key Spring 2025 Print Trends

In my opinion, Pottery Barn never seems to disappoint when it comes to beautiful home decor. Whether you are mixing and matching patterns or deciding to color-drench, they have it all. They may be on the higher end as far as price point, but their products are also high-quality which will last and serve you better in the long run.

Bedroom Bliss: Mixing Patterns for a Relaxing Retreat

I’m making some big changes in our bedroom this year. New bedding, pillows, paint, and finishing the master bathroom to match. It’s been about five years since I’ve made any big change and I’m ready! If you already have a down comforter, duvet covers are a great alternative. They are less expensive and can easily be removed and cleaned if needed.

Whether you’re drawn to the vibrant energy of traditional floral prints, clean lines of geometric designs, farmhouse or maybe boho decor, you’ll find plenty of ideas to spark your creativity. It’s important to remember that these real-world examples will help you confidently combine different patterns to create spaces, in your own home, that are both stylish and inviting to you.

By doing so, you’ll gain a better understanding of the principles of pattern mixing and be equipped to develop your own unique style. Start by collecting images from magazines, websites, and social media platforms like Pinterest and Instagram.
