The Best Encouraging Advice & Scriptures on Perseverance: Overcoming Life’s Challenges

Perserverance. It can be tough sometimes and something that we all have been challenged with at various points in our lives. In opening a little bit of my heart today, I wanted to share the best encouraging advice & scriptures on perseverance: overcoming life’s challenges.

Most often on my blog, you will find me sharing home decor, a DIY or a pretty tablescape. Believe it or not, that isn’t the direction my blog started. My blog began because of my handmade blankets. Assuming you’ve been visiting my site for awhile, I’m sure you’ve read all about my blankets and The Journey. If you haven’t read that, I make blankets and donate part of the proceeds to find a cure for brain tumors. I do so in honor of my son Mitchell, who is a brain tumor survivor.

“In order to complete our amazing life journey successfully, it is vital that we turn each and every dark tear into a pearl of wisdom, and find the blessing in every curse.” – Anthon St. Maarten

Perseverance: Overcoming Life's Biggest Challenge Me and Mitch

My son has battled a benign brain tumor since he was sixteen years old. He is now twenty-eight and has endured four brain surgeries, countless MRI’s, testing and most recently radiation.

That’s a long time persevering, my friends.

As Mitchell (we) prepares to receive the results from his most recent MRI follow-up, I thought it fitting to talk about the importance of persevering in the hardest of times.

Perseverance: Overcoming Life’s Biggest Challenge

Perseverance means to do something continuously in spite of the obstacles. It involves the ability to stay committed despite setbacks, failures, or challenges. Perseverance often requires resilience, patience, and a willingness to work through adversity.

Maintaining a positive attitude and finding ways to adapt and overcome obstacles is so important while enduring what lies ahead.

What lies ahead…For me, the waiting is the hardest part. Perservering while watching my child walk through each step has been difficult.

In regards to the challenge you may be currently facing, I have put together some encouraging advice and scriptures to help you as you journey through.

Perseverance: Overcoming Life's Biggest Challenge Bible and Blanket

Encouraging Scriptures for Perserverance

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” – Hebrews 12:1-2

“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” – James 1:12

“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” – Romans 5:3-5

The verse that has always kept me going is Romans 8:28. It’s a reminder that God is always working for us and for His glory.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Encouraging Advice

  1. Find support: Lean on family, friends, or other trusted individuals for emotional support. They can offer encouragement, help you brainstorm solutions, be a listening ear and pray for you. Remember, don’t feel like a burden. Your family and friends would not offer their support if they didn’t want to help. Having the right mindset and support from family and friends, helps you perservere through most challenging obstacles.
  2. Practice self-care: Take care of your physical, mental, and emotional health by eating well, exercising regularly, and getting enough rest. Trust me, this one is not always easy. However, this step can help you stay strong and resilient during the hard days.
  3. Keep things in perspective: Try to maintain a positive outlook and focus on the things that are going well in your life. Remind yourself that tough times are temporary and that things will get better.
  4. Learn from your experiences: Look for the lessons in your struggles and use them to grow. Use your experiences to build resilience and develop coping strategies that can help you in the future.

The Best Encouraging Advice & Scriptures on Perseverance: Overcoming Life’s Challenges

Friends, I don’t claim to be an expert on perserverance. It’s a hard challenging road and I don’t think there is one way to navigate it. I am sharing with you what has helped me and I do so in hopes of helping someone else who is on a hard journey.

Perseverance is a quality that is highly valued in the Bible. It allows us to endure trials and hardships and to remain faithful to God. When we persevere, we become stronger, more resilient, and more deeply rooted in our faith.

Keep running the race!

    Kim,

Mitchell and the rest of the family are in my prayers. Perseverance for many is a struggle, there are ups and in life or in your situation a battle that you have waged along side your son for all of these years. It is the same yet different for people who have mental illness or a special needs child, they walk the same road and your encouraging scriptures and advice can offer a little balm for the soul and the weary.

Take care and thank you for sharing your heart, your story and struggles.
