It’s been some time since I’ve made one of my Cottage blankets. I wanted to share the process of how I sometimes start my blankets. So today, I’m going to tell you all about my newest creation. It’s the prettiest purple cottage blanket wrapped with love.
Lots of love!
It’s not the prettiest because I made it…it’s what it’s made of and how it’s made, that makes it that way.

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. – John 15:12
Why A Purple Cottage Blanket
Let me start by saying many of the blankets I make are commissioned. That means people reach out and tell me what they’re looking for, the colors that they want or need, and I start creating them. However, sometimes I make them because a person, theme or color is laid on my heart.
That’s right, laid on my heart.
What does that mean you ask?
If you have read my story, The Journey, then you know I started this blog because I felt that God has guided me into making blankets, selling them and donating part of the proceeds to find a cure for brain tumors. At the time, I didn’t really know what that would look like but I see it now. I’m a firm believer that if God nudges you, you move. Even if you don’t know why and it may feel scary.
He lays things on your heart.
About a month ago while I was still recovering from my wrist surgery and dreaming about sewing again, someone very dear to me AND the color purple were laid on my heart.
What could be better than making a blanket for a sweet friend and making it purple?
I love the color purple!
It’s cheerful, lovely and if I am being honest, it’s one of my favorite colors.
The Biggest Purple Surprise
Feeling like I was supposed to make this purple blanket I headed down to my fabric stash. I have a ton of fabric, however to my surprise, I had very little purple fabric. Regardless of what I found the first time around, I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss some. So, I proceeded to go through all that fabric a second time and guess what?
This girl who loves purple had next to none.
I found only a few patterns of purple fabric. When I make one of my blankets, I try to have 10-12 different fabrics to work with. After raiding my fabric stash I only had about four.

You should know, I have friends and co-workers that donate fabric to me. Quilters who have scraps leftover also donate to my cause. Believe it or not, I’ve never met some of the people who donate and yet they keep donating.
How nice is that?
So nice!
Anyway, this is where the story gets good.
Really good!
Discouraged and heading back up the stairs I heard my dogs barking like crazy. I looked outside to see what all the commotion was about and low and behold a package was being delivered. I opened the door and brought that little brown box in, setting it on the table. Addressed to me, it was from my blogging buddy, Cindy at Reinvented Delaware.
With so much curiosity and excitement I opened that little brown box and you know what was in it?
Pretty fabrics!
Lots an lots of beautiful purple fabric! The amount of purple fabric I needed to finish my blanket. Cindy sent the most perfect and timely gift!
What were the chances of me getting that fabric right when I needed it?
The Prettiest Purple Cottage Blanket Wrapped With Love
Do you see it now?
Why it’s the prettiest Cottage blanket?
If not, let me tell you.
It’s the prettiest because it was made with the generosity of others. The fabric scraps of others were paid forward to me. In turn, I was able to bless someone else. It didn’t cost any money. I used what I had and what was given to me. As I sewed each piece it was made with love.
You know, the kind of love that was meant to be.
