Cottage in the Mitten

Have you ever had a garden? How about a raised bed garden? I’ve had both kinds of gardens, but today I’m sharing simple tips for starting a raised bed garden.

Location, Location!

Choosing the right location is one key to a successful garden. You want a location that receives at least 6-8 hours of sunlight per day.

Create Raised Beds

The typical size is 3 to 4 feet wide and the length depends on the space available in your garden. You can use untreated wood or galvanized steel.

Fill Your Raised Beds

Fill your raised beds with an equal part mixture of top soil, compost and peat moss.

Chose Your Plants

For beginners, choose easy-to-grow plants, look for plants with a short growing season and consider the size of your beds.

Keep a Journal

A garden journal is a wonderful tool used to keep track of the important information. It will help when planning your garden in the future.

Enjoy Your Harvest

Few things compare to the joy of harvesting fresh, homegrown vegetables from your raised bed!

With a little TLC, your raised bed will reward you with years of bountiful harvests. Get planting and savor the taste of fresh, homegrown goodness!
