What You Need to Know About Tomato Girl Summer

I like to think I’m up on alot of the new trends, however, I learned a new one last week. Have you heard about the “Tomato Girl Summer?” I know, me either? Today I’m going to share what you need to know about tomato girl summer.

Tomato Girl Summer - Almalfi Coast

What is Tomato Girl Summer?

Last year, the trend was all about coastal grandmother, and this year, it’s all about tomato girl summer.

Apparently, tomato girl summer is all the rage on TikTok. Over 208 million views and counting! Although it’s in large part about fashion and wearing that bright red color of a tomato, it also spills over into entertaining in your home.

The trend is all about embracing the vibes of a European summer. Think Italian leisure. I’ve never been to Italy, but I can definitely imagine Italian leisure! This is often characterized by a slower pace of life, emphasis on quality over quantity, and a focus on enjoying the simple pleasures of daily existence. Some simple pleasures include seaside walks (or the beach here in the Mitten, in my case), tending to your garden, reading a book, dinner with family, strolling through your local farmers market, intimate entertaining, and just basic laid-back living.

Sounds like a fun trend to me! How about you?

“I love the simplicity, the ingredients, the culture, the history and the seasonality of Italian cuisine. In Italy people do not travel. They cook the way grandma did, using fresh ingredients and what is available in season.” – Anne Burrell

Tomato Girl Summer – Clothing Options

Tomato girl summer embraces the color red and free and easy living. So everything from picnic ready dresses, linen pants, fruit covered apparel, oversized sunglasses, gold jewelry, straw hats, red sandals or espadrilles, and wicker hand bags are all a go! The Italian culture appreciates natural materials that are breathable and comfortable, especially during warmer months. Linen and cotton are their top choices.

I’ve found some fun options for you below!

“I love places that have an incredible history. I love the Italian way of life. I love the food. I love the people. I love the attitudes of Italians.” – Elton John

Accessories

Accessories play a significant role in Italian leisure style as well. A well-chosen belt, or a pair of sunglasses can elevate a simple outfit to a new level of sophistication. Italians also have an a for scarves, which can add a touch of color and personality to an otherwise understated look.

The Italian dining experience embodies the essence of “la dolce vita”, which means the sweet life. It is a celebration of good food, great company, and the joy of savoring each moment. It is a time to slow down, indulge in delicious flavors, and create lasting memories, and they do it all while enjoying the beautiful Italian views!

I think we could all use a little more leisure time, don’t you? I’ll be sneaking a little in when I host bookclub this month. I’m using this post as a reminder to enjoy the brief, 2-hour get together and savor rather than stress over the limited time together. Thank you!

    p.s. I’ll wear linen!
