Supply List for DIY Napkin Rings
Simple. This project is so easy and who doesn’t like a simple and inexpensive napkin ring DIY project? Even if you don’t consider yourself a crafty person, I promise you can do this rustic DIY.
The supply list for these natural napkin rings is minimal and chances are you already have all the supplies you need on hand. If you don’t have any small pinecones, you should be able to forage those in your neighborhood or local park.
- Jute twine ( I used the 3.5mm)
- Pinecones – small works best
- Hot glue gun
- Empty toilet paper roll

Pro Tip – Jute Twine
If your jute twine is a bit unruly, lightly mist it with water from a spray bottle. This will make it less likely to fray and easier to work with.
Step 1: Create the Rings
The first step is to cut the empty toilet paper roll. Depending on how many napkin rings you want to make, you may need more than one roll.
When I can, I’m all about using what I have. The twine I had on hand was thicker than I normally use, but it worked just fine. That being said, depending on the size of your twine will depend on how thick you cut the individual rings. I started with 3/4 of a inch and quickly realized it was a little too large. So, I cut mine down to 5/8 and it worked great. If your twine is on the thinner side, you may even have to cut them down to a 1/2 inch.
Continue cutting the rings until you have the number of pieces you need.
“Pinecones. Little works of art. Prickly. Reminders of fall. Similar to pineapples. A sign of welcome.” – Mommy Moo Moo

Step 2: Cut & Wrap Jute Twine
Next, you’ll want to cut your strips of twine. I cut mine 24 inches long. Once you have all the strips cut to size, you can start gluing them to the cardboard ring.
**Please be careful when using the glue gun. It’s easy to burn yourself. Especially because you are working with small pieces.**
Start by adding hot glue to one end and adhering it on the ring. Slowly add a light film of glue as you make your way around the form. Just fyi, I didn’t use glue all the way around. I used enough to hold the jute twine in place.
Continue wrapping the twine until you reach the end. You will have to cut off any excess.

Step 3: Add Pinecones
The last step, is adding the pinecone to the ring.
I considered going all the way around the rustic jute twine napkin ring, but decided I liked the simplicity of just adding one. If you chose to add pinecones to the whole ring, I would love for you to share it with me!
