Let’s Get Crafting: Supplies List

Today I’m going to show you how to make a Valentine’s Day rag wreath. However, first things first! Gathering your supplies for this project is a breeze! One of the best things about this DIY Rag Wreath is the short supply list. You might even have some of these items lying around your house already! This makes it an incredibly budget-friendly and accessible project.

For this project you will need:

1 – 12 inch wire wreath

1 yard of red and white ticking fabric

1 spool of narrow red ribbon

1 – 3 inch wooden heart

1 – container red paint – ( you can use spray paint)

Step 1 – Prepare the Wooden Heart

I started by painting the wooden heart, allowing it to dry completely before proceeding with the rest of the project. Before painting, I drilled a small hole in the top of the heart. Next, I painted the heart with red paint, using some chalk paint I had on hand. If you don’t have any paint, you can buy spray paint or a small bottle of acrylic paint. Once both sides were painted and dry, I set the heart aside until I was ready to attach it to the rag wreath.

Step 2 – Cutting Fabric Strips for Your Rag Wreath

Next, you’ll need to cut your fabric. I used a red and white ticking fabric for my rag wreath. Your strips of fabric will need to be 1 ½ inches wide by 8 inches long. If you use the ticking fabric you can cut or rip the strips. Ticking fabric rips easily. Once the strips are cut or ripped, into 1 ½ inch wide pieces, you then need to cut them into pieces 8 inches long.

Step 3 – Adding Fabric to the Wreath Base

Once complete, you can start adding the fabric to the wire wreath. Fold the fabric in half and use a knot to tie around the wire frame. As you wrap the fabric around the wreath base, tie the knots close together to ensure a full and even coverage. Avoid leaving any gaps between the fabric strips.

Do this until you have completed each ring around the wreath.

Step 4: Attach the Wooden Heart

Once the fabric is on the wreath, the last step is to add the red painted heart. I used an ⅛ of an inch wide ribbon and slipped it through the hole. If you have trouble getting into the small hole, use an embroidery needle to feed the ribbon through. I hung the heart, in the center, from the last row of wire. I also used the same ribbon to hang the wreath.

Time to Show Off Your Wreath

That’s all there is to this easy Valentine’s Day rag wreath tutorial! It’s a simple project and one that will add a festive Valentine touch to your home decor. You’ve created a unique and charming piece of decor that will add a touch of love and warmth to your home. Hang it on your front door, above your fireplace, or anywhere else you’d like to spread some Valentine’s Day cheer.
