Mitten Moments

Good morning, friends! Welcome to my Mitten Moments, my little corner of the Cottage dedicated to my life here in Michigan and some moments from a few of my blogging friends. This is the day where I slow down and reflect on some personal moments, yummy recipes and seasonal decor. So, grab your favorite drink and cozy up for all this week’s goodness!

Last week was a frigid, snowy week and the current temperature is 7°. It seems this week is starting off that same! I’ve had a busy week making my lists and checking them twice. All the gifts I have are wrapped and under the tree, however, I still have a few gifts I’m waiting for delivery on and a couple left to purchase. I’ll be finishing up early in the week and hope to be completely done, wrapped and under the tree, by weeks end! Wrapping a pretty gift is one of my favorite things to create! You can see my post Wrap It Up Like a Pro if you need some creative wrapping ideas! How are your Christmas lists coming?

A Christmas gift wrapped in white paper featuring a repeating pattern of colorful, stylized Christmas trees. The present is tied with a bow made of two ribbons: a wide, soft pink satin ribbon and a narrower white ribbon decorated with a string of colorful Christmas lights.

My Personal Moments

  • My youngest son graduated with his Masters Degree in Engineering Management, last week. We celebrated at one of his favorite restaurants, this afternoon! I asked if he was going to get his Doctorate next and I feel like it was a hard pass!
  • Big Al and I just finished the 3rd season of The Diplomat on Netflix. Have you seen it? It’s a political thriller and so well written. If you’re looking for something new to watch, this is a great option!
  • This season, I’ve been a Hallmark movie girl. I truly believe you either like the Hallmark channel or you could leave it. Leaning in to my renewed Hallmark phase, I wanted a similar kind of book to read. I picked up The Christmas Inn by Pamela M. Kelley. When a busy professional finds herself stranded at a picturesque Christmas inn, she discovers that the greatest gift of the season isn’t under the tree, it’s the second chance she never saw coming. It’s good and Hallmark-y for sure!

A Few of My Favorite Moments

I grew up in a house where there was always some kind of homemade baked good. I love to eat sweets for breakfast and after a meal. It’s just been part of my DNA as long as I can remember. Sally from Sally’s Baking has some amazing recipes. Her Gingerbread Latte Cookies are delicious. Add them to the top of your baking list, this holiday season!

Overhead image of a large batch of soft and chewy gingerbread or molasses cookies, many of which are dipped in a white chocolate glaze and dusted with cinnamon or nutmeg. The cookies are scattered on a white surface, with a bite taken out of two, and surrounded by fresh pine sprigs and a small bowl of cinnamon.

Poinsettia problems? Stacy from Bricks ‘n Blooms shared her essential Poinsettia Care Tips to keep your beautiful holiday poinsettias thriving indoors all season long. She covers everything from proper watering to the right temperatures to ensure your poinsettias look their absolute best.

Cozy sunroom decorated for Christmas with a large, vibrant red poinsettia plant on a wooden side table next to a comfortable white slipcovered armchair. The chair is dressed with a snowflake throw pillow and a green and red plaid blanket. The room is filled with natural light, ferns, and other green plants, featuring a terracotta tile floor and large windows overlooking a garden.

I enjoy gifting books for special occasions and usually wrap them in a gift bag. My friend KariAnne from Thistlewood Farms shared How to Gift Wrap a Book. You better believe I’ll be using this method to wrap my books, from now on!

The main gift features a white wrapping paper with a Santa Claus pattern and a clever diagonal pocket holding fresh pine sprigs and red berries. A smaller, red-and-white striped gift tied with white ribbon rests against the larger present, alongside a large red ornament wrapped in red and white baker's twine.
