March is here! For me, after a long winter, it’s natural to crave a fresh, colorful atmosphere in my home. This spring, let’s embrace the beauty of nature together by bringing the outdoors in, seamlessly blending the natural charm of fresh or faux plants and florals. Whether you’re a seasoned plant momma or a beginner decorator, bringing the outdoors in is obtainable for anyone. Today my guide will show you how to create an inviting space that celebrates the essence of spring, with tips on combining real and artificial elements for a look that’s both beautiful and budget-friendly.

“My relationship to plants becomes closer and closer. They make me quiet; I like to be in their company.” – Peter Zumthor
Why Bring the Outdoors In This Spring?
Although, I’m a girl that loves the winter months, they can be long. So when the first sign of warm weather comes to the Mitten, I’m thinking all things spring. Flowers and plants brighten up a home and bringing the outdoors in isn’t just about making things look pretty; it’s about creating a healthier, happier living space and one that highlights low-maintenance greenery. Below is a list of things that will help your spring mood!
Beneficial Tips

For this simple centerpiece, I used some faux lambs ear in a white pitcher. I’ve had the faux stems for quite a few years. They still look like new, and using what you already have is budget-friendly and also a great way to decorate. This brings the look of the outdoors in, without any maintenance.
Seasonal Blooms: Tulips, Daffodils, and More
Real seasonal blooms are easy to obtain at your local grocery store and places like Trader Joe’s (which happens to be my favorite!). The prices are affordable and the flowers are always fresh. I know some of you may have flower markets that you have access to and those are wonderful avenues, as well.
From the vibrant hues of tulips to the cheerful yellow of daffodils, and pussy willows, these seasonal flowers offer a simple way to infuse your home with the freshness of spring.
My Personal Tip
This isn’t a scientific method, but one that I have always used and it works for me. I put a penny in the water with my tulips. The copper from a penny is believed to help keep the water cleaner, potentially extending the life of the tulips. No promises, but try it and see if it works for you, too!

Houseplants for Spring
I used to keep plants in my home all the time. Then, when my sons were young and life was full of music and art lessons and travel sports, something had to give. Unfortunately, the plants had to go! That all changed a few years ago when a dear friend surprised me with a beautiful planter for a special birthday, reigniting my love for plants.
Over the last few years, I have become a “plant momma” again and I can’t seem to get enough of them! They are perfect for mixing in with your home decor, blending natural beauty with interior design. From the lush plants adorning a table or bookshelf to the sculptural elegance of a snake plant accentuating a corner (in my case – hiding an outlet cover), houseplants can transform ordinary rooms into vibrant, inviting sanctuaries.
House plants are budget-friendly and eco-friendly. Once you’ve invested in a few thriving plants, you can easily rearrange them, pairing them with existing furniture and decor items to create new and exciting looks. This dynamic approach to interior design not only minimizes waste but also encourages a deeper connection with nature within your own home.
You can see how I used real and faux plants in my previous spring home tour.

My Personal Tip
Every time I bring a new house plant into my home, I add a houseplant insect control to the soil. Not all houseplants have those little gnats, but some do, especially if they come from a large big box store. It’s better to be safe than sorry, in my opinion.
I recently bought this red maranta. This plant is also commonly known as a prayer plant because it’s leave fold upwards at night, resembling hands folded in prayer. The red, light and dark green colors make it a perfect option to incorporate for spring!

Budget-Friendly Greenery & Floral Touches
Another budget-friendly option is using cuttings from your own garden. If your neighbors, family, or friends have an abundance of plants, don’t hesitate to ask if you could take a few cuttings! Snipping a few sprigs of blooming forsythia, tulips, flowering branches from trees, or lush greenery from your established plants allows you to create beautiful, no-cost arrangements. Not only does this save money, but it also fosters a deeper connection with your own outdoor space.
Literally, bringing the outdoors in, plus budget-friendly! Who doesn’t love that!

“Forsythia is pure joy. There is not an ounce, not a glimmer of sadness or even knowledge in forsythia. Pure, undiluted, untouched joy.” – Anne Morrow Lindbergh

You’ve put me back in the mood to become a plant mamma again
I’m so glad! It’s a funny hobby and they’re great to decorate with.
I love my house plants but can’t wait to dig in the dirt!
Same! I’m ready for spring!
Kim, thank you for the tips. I do not have a green thumb so I can use all the help I can get. Sadly I “over love” and over water all of my indoor plants and consequently they don’t last long. I am however a great forager!
Happy Weekend.
Plants are sometimes hard to raise! Too much water, not enough sun…I have the same problems sometimes! Have the best weekend, Elizabeth!
Beautiful plant favorites!
Love how plants indoors clean the air. I move my indoor plants outside. Rain and sunshine does them good. Spray with diluted dish soap to get small spiders n bugs off to bring back in.
I’ve never used the diluted dish soap method. Will have to remember that!
Thanks for the copper penny tip. Tulips are my favorite so I am definitely going to try this!
You’re welcome! I love them, too!
Florals are a huge mood booster for me. I often treat myself to a $5 bunch of tulips or other flower bouquets on special at the local grocery store. It makes everything better.
You are right! A definite mood booster!
