Mitten Moments – Everyday Blessings and a Thoughtful Pause

Happy Sunday! It’s time for another week of Mitten Moments. Those moments are my way of slowing down and sharing the beauty in the everyday. From cottage life in the mitten and creative finds to meaningful moments that linger a little longer.

What’s on My Heart this Sunday

It’s not often we face moments that truly pause us, but tomorrow my friend, Kelly, will undergo brain surgery. Our families are tied by friendship, this brain tumor walk, and also by family. She is my nephew’s mother-in-law and her daughter was in one of my first small groups at church.

We are connected.

Kelly was diagnosed with her first tumor two months after my son Mitchell’s brain tumor diagnosis, thirteen years ago. If you’re new here and don’t know about my son and our journey you can read about it here.

I’ve been thinking a lot about strength, faith, and the power of community. It would mean the world to me if you would lift my friend, Kelly, in your prayers. We recently did just that at a fundraiser Kelly created for Head for the Cure. It was a wonderful night where she shared her testimony.

If you’ve followed along for a while, you may know that I support Head for the Cure, a cause that’s close to my heart. It’s the same organization I make blankets for, donating a portion of each sale to help fund brain tumor research. If you feel led to join me in giving, you can read more about my blanket project here, or donate directly to Head for the Cure in honor of my friend by supporting her team here. Every gift big or small makes a difference!

My Personal Moments

  • Our oldest granddaughter had her dance recital today. I may be partial but she was the cutest tiny dancer there!
  • I tried my hand at a few strawberry plants this season and I’m happy to report they are doing great! I left them in hanging pots so the critters can’t get at them and it has worked out better than I thought it would.
  • Do you like jigsaw puzzles? Big Al and I love to do them. We usually work them on a piece of plywood, but I finally broke down and bought this puzzle board with 4 drawers and it is a puzzle constructing game changer! I may have bought this 4th of July puzzle, too!
  • I recently heard about a new craze that I found interesting…well, I actually think it’s kind of funny! Did you know that tin fish or sardines are the new fad? From tin fish stores to clothing with sardines, it’s all the rage! This trend, which originated on TikTok, has elevated tinned fish to delicacy status thanks to its health benefits, sustainability, and affordability. Who knew??

When I was a little girl, my mother would buy almond tea rings in the store. I absolutely loved the almond filling. When I saw this recipe, I knew I had to share it. Once again, my friend Elizabeth from Pinecones and Acorns shared a stunning dessert. Her Almond Bear Claws & & Bear Paws Pastry Recipe will be made in my kitchen soon!
