Mitten Moments

Happy Sunday friends! It’s a big day here in the Mitten. Big Al and I are celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary! Before we head out and conquer the day, I wanted to share the latest and greatest Mitten Moments that have caught my eye. If you’ve been here before, you know the routine. Grab your favorite cup of and meet me at the Cottage!

My Personal Moments

  • Sadly, our garden is starting to look a little sad. I had to pull the cucumber vines out of the garden and a pepper plant or two. In good news, my cut flower garden is looking so good. The zinnias and butterfly bushes are attracting so many pretty visitors! Last week, there were tons of these teeny tiny butterflies. At least, I think that’s what they were. If I’m wrong, please let me know!

  • Each year as the summer winds down, we freeze packages of tomatoes adding jalepenos and onions. We use them throughout the year for the base of our homemade chili. I’m excited to report, that this summer, we’ve had enough tomatoes and peppers from our own garden that we didn’t need to purchase anything except the onions. Go us!
  • Yesterday, was the start of the regular season for college football! Our family are big University of Michigan fans. Although their first game isn’t until next weekend, you can be sure we’ll all be watching them! Go Blue!

My Favorite Weekly Find

I’m starting to pick-up some new clothes for the fall season. This mock turtle neck is ideal for cooler temps. It can be dressed-up or down with a pair of leggings and a cute pair of flats.

Friends! It’s that time of year, again. What time you ask? The time when you start cutting and drying those beautiful hydrangea blooms. I have a simple method and shared my post How to Dry Hydrangeas for Beginners: A Step-by-Step Guide. I’m using some hydrangeas in a vessle from last year, but have started to dry my blooms from this year. If you missed my post, stop on by the Cottage and see how easy it is!

A Few of My Favorite Moments

Many of my shares, this week, seem to be food inspired. I guess I’m a foodie at heart! My first yummy share is from my friend, Elizabeth at Pinecones & Acorns. Check out her Easy Cinnamon Apple Blondies with Vanilla Glaze. Yum! These will be a perfect treat for the upcoming fall season!

A stack of golden-brown apple blondies topped with vanilla glaze and chopped walnuts, with fresh apples and walnuts in the background.

Do you ever make your own salad dressing? I love a good homemade recipe and Stacey, from Garlic, Salt and Lime shared her Homemade Italian Dressing. Her recipe is simple and you probably already have all the ingredients on hand!

I have never worked with air dry clay, however, my next share has given me serious inspiration to try it out! My friend, Rachel from The Ponds Farmhouse, created DIY Anthropologie-Style Cheese Markers. They are the perfectly cute and a great addition to your fall charcuterie board!

A charcuterie board featuring a variety of cheeses, crackers, and fall-themed decorations, including air-dry clay cheese markers in the shape of leaves.

  1. Happy Anniversary!! I think our growing season is a few weeks ahead of you…tomatoes are slowing down, herbs are trying to seed, and I almost missed my hydrangea drying time. Limelights are just standing in a dry bucket drying now…they do great without water for me…but my Bobos don’t seem to dry well. And my blue ones were made into a wreath yesterday and we will see how well they dry! Happy Sunday!
