Mitten Moments

It’s Sunday! For me that means church, family, friends, football and Mitten Moments!

I’ve been clearing out the remainder of the garden. I’m happy to report, we had great success this summer and my flowers did well, too. However, my dahlia’s are just now starting to bloom. I planted them a little later than usual and it really made a difference. I can’t remember the name of this one, but isn’t she pretty!

My Personal Moments

  • Big Al and I recently made a trip to the used book store near our house. It’s fun to brouse and we always find some reading treasures. Since traveling to Hemingway’s Key West Haven, we’ve both been wanting to read some of Ernest Hemingway’s novels. On that book store trip, we found a copy of The Old Man and The Sea. I’m happy to report I read the entire book in an hour and a half.

  • I heard a story on the news that really made me stop and pause. According to a recent news report, our grandparents were 72% more likely to engage with their children and grandchildren than we are today. It’s due to all the social media distractions, notifications on our watches, and the prevalence of other technology in our daily lives. Wow…72%!

My Favorite Weekly Find

How fun is this art! I just love the colors and the wooden frame. It seems to me, framed art has taken a backseat in recent years, with canvas prints dominating the market. This piece checks all the boxes for me. Beautiful, framed and affordable!

We’ve had some wonderfully warm weather, here in the Mitten. However, some of my poor potted plants are telling me fall is just around the corner. I emptied some of those pots and I’m getting ready to replace them with some vibrant mums, along with adding some pretty fall wreaths to my doors.

Last week, I made a rustic home decor wreath that was easy and affordable! My DIY Faux Indian Corn Wreath would be the ideal addition to your festive fall door or inside your home!

I believe you can create a beautiful fall tablescape using items you already have at home, and that mixing and matching different patterns and colors can add visual interest. The same goes for seasonal decor througout your home. I recently shared my Cozy Cottage Fall Home Tour. If you’re looking for some inspiration, check it out!

  1. Kim, thank you so much for featuring my coffee bar ideas! So sweet. What fun to head to a used books store with your hubby. We would love to do that too. I must admit the smell of books is one of my favorites! Thanks again! Happy Fall!

  2. I read The Old Man and the Sea many years ago too. Maybe it was the Key West influence that prompted me to read it too. Love the clothing finds and your Dahlias. I really want to plant some next year.

  3. Kim,
I’ve never been to Key West but have always wanted to go. I love that you found that vintage book. It must have been good to read it so fast. Thank you for sharing my mantel this week. You are the best.

  4. What beautiful Dalias. Have not planted them. One of my Moms favorites. I will be downloading Old Man by the Sea. Don’t believe I’ve read it. Reminds me of Maine trip, that I loved.
