Do you have carpet, hardwood, or maybe you have both, in your home? I have both, but there is plenty of hardwood at the cottage. Therefore, I love to use large rugs in my living and dining room areas. I’m always on the hunt for a pretty rug and a good deal. Today, I’m sharing some of my favorite cottage-style rugs that work beautifully year-round. These are pieces I love for their timeless style, comfort, and the way they make any space feel just a little more like home!

Helpful Rug Tips
Neutral Area Rugs for a Soft, Cozy Look
Neutral rugs are usually shades of gray, taupe, white, and cream. They are often made from cotton, jute, wool or sisal. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love a good neutral somewhere in their home decor!

Pretty Pastel Rugs to Brighten Up Any Room
Did you know that pastel colors are actually pale tones of colors made by mixing white into the orginial shade? I’m no art major but it makes sense, right? Pastels have recently made a comeback. I even designed my She Room in pastel pink. You can see all the details in my post How To Create A She Shed In A Room. I plan on adding a little wallpaper to the she room, within the next few months. I’ll make sure to share it with you when it’s done!
If you love a soft, serene look in your home, pastel rugs are a beautiful way to add color without overwhelming your space. These light and airy hues like blush pink, sky blue, and soft sage, bring a touch of cottage charm and work beautifully in bedrooms, living rooms, or even a cozy entryway.

Rug Size & Placement Guide for Your Cottage Home
| Living Room | 8’×10′ or 9’×12′ | Place front legs of furniture on the rug, or all legs for larger rooms | Neutral rugs work well with layered textures and pillows |
| Dining Room | 8’×10′ or larger | Rug should extend 24–30″ beyond the table on all sides | Try a patterned rug for hiding crumbs and spills |
| Bedroom | 6’×9′ (Queen), 8’×10′ (King) | Place rug under lower 2/3 of bed, or use runners on each side | Soft pastel or vintage-style rugs add serenity |
| Entryway | 2’×3′ or 3’×5′ | Choose a low-pile rug with a non-slip pad | A bold pattern makes a great first impression |
| Kitchen | Runner or 2’×6′ | Place in front of sink or between counters | Indoor/outdoor or washable rugs are practical choices |
| Hallway | Runner (2’×7′ or 2’×9′) | Leave a few inches between rug and wall on each side | Add warmth with vintage or braided textures |

As I put Christmas decorations away, noticed parts of house I don’t spend much time in except to vacuum/clean. After so many years, some things just need to be refreshed. Love the rugs and pillows. Good inspiration.
You are so right! Some rooms we never seem to spend time in! Thanks for the love! xo
Kim, I love this post with all of the beautiful rug selection. Bold color and pastels are on trend. Love pops of color in a room. I am not a pastel person unless it’s a subtle tone down from an aqua. My craft room, I want to go bold or go home this year. LOL
Thanks friend! I’m loving the bold colors this year! Can’t wait to use some in my home! I’m looking forward to seeing what you do in your craft room!! xo
Loving the rugs you chose! I’m looking at a few for our home.
